Progress Report

Posted by Daniel

I though you might be interested in knowing what we’re up to:

Dungeons

All dungeon maps are done, most have stories and dialogue done. No treasures or barrels are done yet and we haven’t placed any enemies. I do however have a cool new way to place enemies so I can’t wait to try it.

Towns

Towns are in place. Shops, inns and the important people are in place. We still want to add a whole bunch of people to make them more exciting. Plus a few little quests.

We’re doing mini games in the towns like in DL1 but they are much better and we know not to have time limits now. :)

Side Quests

The journal stuff is done for side quests and some of them are in place. We’ve recently thought of a couple more so those are only partly done.

Story Scenes

All story scenes are written and ready to go into the game. This week Andrew is going to be putting all of them (I hope) into the game. Some are easy to do but others with lots of animation and movement take a long time.

Weapon Crafting

I planned out all the materials and building process a while ago. Last week I made a rough version of the crafting process. I still need to make it so your weapons have the features you choose. I couldn’t do that before now since it’s very closely linked to …

Battle System

I’m right now working on a new turn order system. You’ll be able to see who gets a turn next and you’ll have some skills that can change the order. We had speed before but you didn’t get to see how it affected the battle so I think this will make battles more interesting.

After that I’ll work on putting in all the enemy data which is pretty easy.

4 Weeks

Our goal is to have the game finished by July 23 so we can start testing. Will we make it? Only time will tell.

Also I am batman … this batman.

Wow, end of July for testing. Impressive speed…you guys can move. Seems like you guys are also adding in more new features, which will definitely keep things interesting. Will some of the Lilly and Sasha gameplay elements seep into DL 2 or are you keeping the style of play for each series unique to themselves?

Oh and does Andrew know you’re Batman ;) ? Cause your secret identity has been officially BUSTED!! :D

    Adam West ROCKS!!!!

Great to read about these work phases and methods! It just brings the game closer to me, and easier to see (= prize and respect) all the work behind it. You guys are amazing (tired of reading that over and over again yet? ;-) )

So far I was all for playing your games when they were all finished, ready, in glossy gift wrapping ;-) but now I kind of wish I could glimpse DL2 earlier, and see how it is when not yet perfect… and help a bit if possible, in making it so. Is there any possibility to join the beta testing group, please?

I can’t wait ! I just recently subscribed to the newsletter… which I never realized existed D= sorry D= lol…. and I can’t wait to read about DL2 when it comes out on the newsletter ^-^ assuming you guys info us about it on it.. LOL! Good job you guys :) What an awesome team !!

Adam West was DEFINITELY the very best Batman (and Burt Ward as Robin was kind of a hunk too!) Now you realize that I will view Daniel and Andrew in my head as Adam and Burt forevermore, right? (Way to make an old lady drool, guys!)

I’m curious about the battle system….will it be more like DL1 or similar to L&S? Oh, I can’t wait!!!

I have also applied for the Beta Testing League. I think it would be a gas to help make DL2 the best it can possibly be!

    Jade and Oceanloveroh,
If you get into the Beta Testing League get ready for a wild, yet fun ride ;) :) .

At the top right of this page when in any of the tabs other than blog or forum, there’s a box that will appear where you can enter your email address and be signed up for the JW newsletter. Hope this helps :)

Daniel, judging by your posts, I think you and Andrew have put more energy into your games than I’ve put into my entire life. =)

The new features you describe sound wonderfully entertaining, and I know it’ll be loads of fun trying them out. Thanks for all your work.

ps– I believe I have every episode of the ’60s Batman series on tape; as I told Andrew in a forum thread, my mind is thinking–existentially– that he’s the pondering Caped Crusader while we’ll ever love you as the lively and enthusiastic Boy Wonder. Or both of you in alternating roles. =)

Again, can’t wait for DL2, and very best wishes.

ladybegood: You’ve been a beta tester, credited on L&S, and what Loontune says about the newsletter is quite right. Having been in the forefront of games, I doubt very much that you’ve lost anything by not knowing at this moment about an ephemeral newsletter. Have always enjoyed your comments.Very best wishes. And when II say something like that on my post, I mean it.

    Yours very truly,

    Grace

  10. ladybegood says:

thank you Grace I know I was credited with being a tester and was for a while but had to stop because of a death in the family. Daniel and Andrew were nice enough to still list me on the game. I hope to do it again when the new games come out I find this site to have the nicest people on it and both Daniel and Andrew are just the greatest host plus make great games.
