Why Dawn’s Light 2?

Posted by Daniel

Why make Dawn’s Light 2 now instead of Nexus?

When we were deciding which game to make next, we just had a lot more material for a Dawn’s Light game. Stuff we’d come up with during development of Lilly and Sasha.

Having just finished L&S we felt like we had already used all of our ideas for that. We are coming up with more stuff now of course and when DL2 is done we’ll be ready to go on Nexus.

When is Dawn’s Light 2 coming out?

I don’t like giving release dates because it’s really to guess when a game will be done. I try to stay positive in order to stay motivated for the whole project so I tend to think the game will be done more quickly than is humanly possible.

If I let myself think that the game is too far away, doing work right now doesn’t seem so important. If I knew in December that Lilly and Sasha wouldn’t be done until March, I probably would have given up.

On the other hand, deadlines, even if they are optimistic, are a great motivator. I always set target dates but they aren’t really important since only I know what they are. So if I were to give a date …

Go on, say it!

Fine! So my optimistic answer is the game will be complete, ready for testing in one month. Add another week or so because I’m forgetting some stuff. Then add time for testing and you have a release date of mid august.

When is Nexus coming out?

Lilly and Sasha: Nexus of Souls will follow. We have already started work on the game. The story is pretty much done but we’ll probably add more. I would love to have it out by September 23rd to make it 6 months since CoTI.

It depends how well things go with DL2, there should be some overlap, I can handle the Dawn’s Light bugs while Andrew starts on this.

So that’s it then?

Never! We would like to get something else out this year, as well as redoing our site. Then there’s the sequel to Christmas Tale. So like I said, pretty optimistic.

Nope, not Victor

Not Victor and not Joss. It was a bit mean of Andrew to show that one since we can’t reveal who it is. It’s a cool surprise in the game that we don’t want to ruin. So to make up for it, we can show you this guy:

You have a headband, Lord Sword.

Wow, you guys are like the polar opposite of Elder and Blossomsoft when it comes to speed of releases. We’ve been waiting a longtime for EE2 and here you guys are not only planning on releasing DL 2, but also releasing L&S 2 and Christmas Tale 2 and all optimistically/ambitiously this year. You guys are an impressive one, two punch. So, here’s to looking forward to a steady stream of fantastic sequels to close out 2010 :D
Now if only we can get Dream Venturos and EE2 soon. Then this year would truly be filled out with great, quality rpg fun!!

I have to agree with you regarding my pace loontune, it’s slow haha.

It’s absolutely fantastic to hear about Dawn’s Light 2! I liked the first announcement, Harvey with a beard was a surprise to me (in a positive way)! I hope he will remain unshaven for the entire game. :) That’s great to see changes like this in sequels, it gives more life to characters as if time moved in their universe.

I like especially how the style of the new artworks blends perfectly with the RPG Maker ones in the first game.

its nice to see someone make their people older just goes to show that they have not forgotten us older {elder} people play their games to and that no one stays young.

Usually, I hate to see summer come to an end. But Aug/Sep release(s) really make me look forward to the coming autumn! I’m not sure which game I’m looking more forward to….but I’m sure they’ll both be terrific! Then it’ll snow and I’ll be ready for the sequel to the Christmas game. My goodness, Daniel, you just have the rest of the year planned out for me…..clever guy!

Ladybegood, I’m 57 outside, but still 16 inside and plan to be that way forever :)

  5. loontune says:

Hey, Elder, don’t worry about the pace as long as Dream Venturos and EE2 ROCK, which I’m sure they both will. So, take your time and make them AWESOME!!!!!! :D

Yesssssss! Can’t wait to see those guys back! :-)

And seeing as your schedule is quite full already for 2010, just as a suggestion for 2011 – hope you didn’t forget your idea about the “Swordhand’s Tale” game ;-)

oceanloveroh just so you know I am 70 going on 12 and I look forward to these games just like i was a kid again and if Daniel and Andrew keep them coming like they are I plan on staying 12 forever they really keep me looking and loving their games.

    OK, it’s official…..Ocean is Lady’s older sister, just by a little bit…..

    :)

Well, I ~love~ the release of any John Wizard game and am neither 40 nor 70. Love everybody who’s commented on the games and think they are terrific. As are the games; spectacular. =)

  10. gcbudka says:

Not Victor and not Joss..? Oh, my. ~sighs~ I guess humorously. *BG*

Damn, you guys are so fast. Obviously you are doing this full-time which is why you are quicker than the team behind Aveyond. Very happy to hear that Dawn’s Light 2 is your next release as this is my favourite rpg of all time!!
Keep it as funny as ever and I’ll be so wrapped.

Come on Daniel give us an idea as to when we can expect this game to be out it looks like Ocean and I are get older by the minute This is just the nicest site to come to as everybody seems to get along so well unlike some sites where if you post wrong they make a big deal about it and tell you to post in the right spot or not at all

  13. oceanloveroh says:

Lady, I am currently playing a game from that site and saw you put that rude individual in his/her place. Bravo for you! Life’s too short to snipe at others, especially on a gaming site that is there for fun. Yeah, Daniel, I’m getting bored with the game from that other site and I’m ready for some good ol’ Daniel and Andrew puzzles and laughter!

Wohooooo, yes, I knew it – you guys are indeed unusual, but in a good way :-) Now that I have been absent from that blog for some time (new job, new town, new life), I see that you are really ambitious and obviously will not back down from your mighty plans to give us the BEST RPG games possible!!! Simply brilliant. I just hope that you get the acknowledgement that you deserve, so that you are able to produce even more games in the future.

@ocean and lady: I am so on your side, it might appear to be odd since I am in my twenties and should be ok with the online behaviour of people, but I believe in the simple rule of manners. No one is perfect and omniscient, so people should relax and not be so arrogant. That is actually the reason why I keep checking this blog, I really like the people (both developers and followers) and their comments here. And so far everyone seems to pay the needed respect to everyone. Quite unusual as well :-)

  15. loontune says:

Continuing the tangent, I agree with the whole manners on forums thing. I’m in my twenties too, but manners are something that shouldn’t have anything to do with age . Everyone should be kind and courteous when on gaming forums, since we’re usually all fans of the game we’re playing anyways. We just need to be able to get along and relax. It’s really great to know that this blog and the forums are full of nice people, so maybe there’s some hope :D

Also, I love the fact that JW games seem to have such a wide audience. It’s awesome that these games here seem to transcend age and gender. Gotta love the Dynamic Duo of Andrew and Daniel…now I got to know, which one is Batman ;) ?

  16. gcbudka says:

loontune: That is the most brilliant question I’ve ever read. *BG*

yippee. I love it when a truly good game developers goes into hyper drive!

its like the best ones are usaully few and far between

last scenario, exit fate (scf works)…will this wonderful guy ever make another one?

eternal eden 2- pushback on stated deadline again and again. it is like ff13. was supposed to come out in summer 08,now winter, now 09, etc.. A snails pace to awesomeness.

but with john wizard games he is pumping full games out quicker than the annoyingly stupid 4 hour episodic releases some people have chosen – which ironically take just as long as full ones :)

You see hyper mode a lot. so many small companies like your are cranking things out in numbers – but 95% of it I wouldn’t use to entertain a chimp as it would be insulting to him. A truly rare thing for quality crankage. Whatever you are putting in your coffee – keep it up, just don’t od on it. The last thing we need is less talent.
